You can set the default resolution at the time the program is installed. When Photoshop offers to increase the resolution of an image, you’re looking at a higher image density, or more pixels to the screen. Figure 13-1 shows an example of an image that we manipulated in Photoshop. You can also use that setting if your computer doesn’t have a monitor. We generally set the resolution to be 1280 x 1024 pixels because that’s the standard for most 19-inch monitors. Most computers have a control panel with a display screen that allows you to control your computer’s settings. In order to work with a camera or photo image, you need to make some settings for your computer’s display. If you use Photoshop, be sure to include your name and license number on the cover of the edited image for the use of others. We also provide a step-by-step tutorial for doing something called monochrome printing and using Photoshop’s cloning and healing tools, which allow you to mend pictures that have been damaged by cell phones or broken frames.
